WINDHOEK - The company formerly known as Alstom and that has been active in Namibia for at least 14 years has relaunched itself in the local market as Actom.
This is after Alstom International entered the South African market and purchased their power service business back from Alstom South Africa.

Local shareholders therefore decided to re-brand themselves as Actom (Pty) Ltd to avoid customer confusion. Actom is the largest manufacturer, repairer and distributor of electro-mechanical equipment and turnkey solutions in Southern Africa.
The company has completed local projects for NamPower, the City of Windhoek, as well as numerous mining projects.

The company employs about 7 500 people in the region and has an annual order intake in excess of N$7.5 billion, while Namibian projects alone have made the company more than N$1 billion during the last 12 years.

Actom describes itself as a black empowerment company with 42 operating units, 43 production, service and repair facilities, and 36 distribution outlets throughout Southern Africa.

The company’s local partner in Namibia for the last 14 years is the United Africa Group, which owns 40 percent of Actom Namibia.

The aim of the organisation is to target turnkey transmission line and substation projects.
The first contract that was secured by the new organisation in Namibia was the 720km 400kV transmission line from the South African border to the Auas Substation near Windhoek in a joint venture with power and automation technology group ABB.
The organisation has subsequently completed a number of high voltage transmission line and substation contracts in Namibia.

Actom’s subsidiaries in the region are also active in Zimbabwe and Zambia. The company holds numerous technology, distribution and value added reseller agreements with various partners, both locally and internationally.
